Reliable geothermal energy development
Swiss Geo Energy (SGE), an Ad Terra's subsidiary, specialises in developing innovative and financially attractive energy transition projects centred on geothermal energy.
Building on proven subsurface expertise, we advance Switzerland's geothermal energy capabilities through disciplined execution, creating lasting transformation one project at a time.
Our operational project portfolio comprises a methodical three-phase strategy, scaling from Phase I commercial launch in 2030 to integrated subsurface solutions including energy storage, hydrogen production, and lithium extraction.
Strategic portfolio overview:
3-phase development strategy

Phase 1:
Proof of concept
GeoCogen Eclépens will establish SGE's commercial viability with 1.5 MWe and 18 MWth capacity, leveraging Europe's largest 3D seismic dataset. This flagship project will validate our replicable business model.

Phase 2 :
Expansion
Eclépens expansion to 10 MWe and La Broye's 46 MWth deployment will scale production capacity systematically. SGE will seek to establish Switzerland's first seasonal energy storage hub, thereby creating a dual-revenue model.

Phase 3 :
Diversification
SGE is planning to evolve into a subsurface energy provider by adding natural hydrogen production and lithium extraction capabilities. This would position SGE as a one-stop infrastructure solution for Switzerland's net-zero economy.
Phase 1: 2025-2030
GeoCogen Eclépens will prove SGE's commercial model: one geothermal plant will generate both electricity for the electricity and heat for local communities by 2030.

Discover the GeoCogen Eclépens project
GeoCogen Eclépens will develop a geothermal cogeneration plant in Vaud canton that simultaneously produces electricity and heat. The plant will supply heat to the Cadcime district heating network while feeding renewable electricity into Switzerland's grid, with commercial operations starting in 2030.
Cogeneration system: Single plant produces both 1.5 MWe electricity for the grid and 18 MWth heat for local district heating network.
Technology: Uses proven hydrothermal systems without fracking to exploit natural underground heat circulation at 2,000+ meter depths.
Production start: Cogeneration plant begins commercial operations in 2030, delivering heat and electricity simultaneously.
Discover the GeoCogen La Broye project
The GeoCogen La Broye project will develop multiple geothermal plants across the Broye region using Europe's largest geophysical campaign (500 km²) to identify optimal sites through systematic exploration.
Exploration: Geophysical campaign across three/four cantons starts winter 2026-2027 to map geothermal targets.
Technology: Uses proven hydrothermal systems without fracking, targeting hot water at 2,000+ meter depths.
Timeline: First plant planned operational by 2033, with additional plants built at other identified sites.

SGE in R&D:
The GO-Forward project
The GO-Forward project transforms geothermal exploration by integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence with forward modeling techniques to create process-based prediction systems. Swiss Geo Energy participates as a consortium partner alongside 11 other European institutions in this EU-funded initiative, which aims to reduce exploration risks and provide open-source workflows for improved geothermal resource development.
Key outcomes
Enhanced decision-making improves geothermal reservoir evaluation with limited data.
Risk reduction algorithms minimise exploration uncertainties and unsuccessful drilling.
Open-source workflows ensure widespread adoption across the geothermal industry.
Partners
Swiss Geo Energy works with local and industrial partners to carry out the GeoCogen projects and innovations in geothermal energy.
These partnerships allow us to make projects possible financially and technically, supporting our pragmatic approach to reliable geothermal energy development.
