Geophysical campaign in Eclépens: What you need to know

Swiss Geo Energy
June 23, 2023

Swiss Geo Energy will conduct a geophysical campaign as part of the GeoCogen Eclépens geothermal project from September 20 to October 9, 2023 in your region.

Campaign objective: creating subsurface mapping

The main objective of this geophysical campaign is to map the subsurface. The collected data will be used to create a 3D map of the subsurface down to 4,000 meters depth. This map will help identify the most suitable areas for future drilling.

Installation of geophones starting September 4

Starting September 4, the company GEO2X will install geophysical sensors, known as geophones, in 32 municipalities. These installations will be done with approval from the Canton of Vaud, the municipalities, and the concerned property owners. The sites of these sensors will be marked with blue paint dots or small blue flags. These sensors are harmless and are only intended to record subsurface vibrations. To ensure data accuracy, we ask you not to touch or move these sensors. They will be gradually removed after October 9.

Vibrator trucks: nighttime passage

Geo2X will use trucks equipped with metal plates that will vibrate every 36 seconds. These vibrations will be detected by the geophones. The trucks will mainly operate at night (from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM) at speeds below 30 km/h. The vibrations may be felt for approximately 30 minutes. Operators will monitor the amplitude of vibrations to ensure they comply with current standards. You can follow the progress of the vibrator truck passages on our interactive map.

List of municipalities affected by the geophysical acquisition

The geophysical acquisition will take place in the following municipalities:Agiez, Arnex-sur-Orbe, Assens, Bavois, Bettens, Bofflens, Bournens, Boussens, Chavornay, Chevilly, Cossonay, Croy, Daillens, Dizy, Eclépens, Ferreyres, Goumoens, La Chaux (Cossonay), La Sarraz, Lussery-Villars, Moiry, Orbe, Orny, Oulens-sous-Echallens, Penthalaz, Penthaz, Penthéréaz, Pompaples, Saint-Barthélemy (VD), Sullens, Villars-le-Terroir, and Vuarrens.
